Frequently Asked Questions
How do I setup the Starlink dish?
Starlink is designed to be easy to set up. Simply remove the dish and router from its case, plug the router into power and then plug the dish into the router. Be sure you can see the sky! Trees, nearby mountains, or any obstructions between the dish and the sky can cause problems. After a few minutes, the wifi should start working. Speeds increase after an hour or two.

Where does Starlink work?
Our Starlink dishes work anywhere in North America, including Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. The only requirement is a clear view of the sky.
What’s the wifi range?
You can expect to connect to the wifi from about 100 feet away. But this can vary depending on your terrain. Hills, trees, and other objects can reduce your range. If you need to cover a large area, talk to us about using a wifi extender.
I want to use the Starlink dish in an area that has tree cover. How well will it work for me?
The clearer the sky, the better. If you have about 110° of clear sky above you, you can expect a connection sufficient for voice or video calls. If you have some obstructions, the internet will still work, but you may experience occasional dropouts. Live calls may not work well, but you can still expect web browsing and video streaming to work reasonably well.
How much power does the Starlink dish use?
The Starlink dish uses 50-60 watts on average, unless you are in an area with snow. When snow accumulates on the dish, the built-in heater will melt the snow, using more power.
If you will be in a location with no power or limited power, talk to us about your options. We can get you set up with a battery or a generator to make sure you stay connected.
How big is the Starlink dish? Can I carry it on a plane?
The Starlink dish inside the Pelican case weighs 29 pounds. The dimensions are 26.61 x 20.65 x 14.87 in (67.6 x 52.5 x 37.8 cm). That’s too big to carry on a plane, but you can check it as luggage.
Do I need the Starlink app for my phone?
You can optionally install the Starlink app on your phone. This gives you interesting statistics and allows you to see if there are any obstructions between the dish and the satellites. However, it is not required. To connect to the internet, all you have to do is plug the dish in and connect to the wifi network.
